Every day I am forced to navigate the treacherous road from Peace and Plenty to Iden, known as the B2082, as well as the main route to Wittersham. Living in this area means daily commutes are not a choice, and with four mandatory trips each day, it is not simply an inconvenience but a serious safety concern. The potholes and damaged sections of the road have become such a menace that they are not just causing vehicles to deteriorate rapidly, but also endangering drivers.

The road is riddled with dangerous potholes and uneven surfaces that pose hazards to all who travel them, from family cars to delivery vans and public transport. Every bump not only adds to the wear and tear on our vehicles, leading to mounting repair costs but also represents a significant risk to our safety. Friends, neighbors, and local businesses alike are feeling the strain, with everyone facing unexpected and hefty repair bills to maintain the usability of their vehicles.

It's time to push for immediate action to repair and maintain these key roads. By fixing these roads, we not only ensure safer commutes for residents but also foster a more economically viable environment by reducing vehicle maintenance costs and preserving the integrity of transport for local businesses.

According to a 2023 report from the RAC Foundation, road conditions in rural areas have seen significant declines in maintenance, with potholes accounting for £8.6 billion in vehicle damage across the UK. It’s been shown that well-maintained roads are critical for safety and economic health.

I urge the authorities responsible for roads and infrastructure in East Sussex to prioritize the refurbishment of the B2082 from Peace and Plenty to Iden, and the main road to Wittersham. This essential action will save residents from further financial burdens and prevent potential accidents, making the roads safer for everyone who uses them.
