Save our buses: stop the cuts to the 575 and 571/572 routes

First Bus have announced plans to cut essential services in Bolton, despite these services being integral to the lives of thousands every day.
Both the 575 to Horwich’s Lords Estate and the 571/572 routes serve hundreds of passengers a day including being essential services for young people attending St Joseph’s and Rivington and Blackrod (575) and Essa Academy (571/572); and essential for ensurong people without cars can access vital services such as Bolton Hospital and transport links.
To remove these services would leave thousands of people - many from low income backgrounds, the young, disabled and elderly - stranded
These services are well used and First are now using these services as political pawns as they attempt to hold the GM Mayor and TfGM hostage over plans to create a fully intergrated GM transport service. It is clear Firat Manchester do not have the best interest of passengers in mind.
We, the residents of Bolton, are calling on TFGM to:
- immediately begin the process of tendering these services out to ensure there is no disruption in service.
- completely review the way bus services record passenger numbers as we believe people with passes are not being logged properly by drivers.
- support the creation of local transport passenger forums throughout Greater Manchester and engage with these regularly, ensuring passengers are at the forefront of decision making when it comes to local transport.
