Why this petition matters

Started by megan kulawik

We are starting this petition because the company First Bus who currently control the bus fares in Bristol are charging shocking amounts. Families in Bristol who are not financially stable enough to buy the £358 year ticket upfront are forced to have to pay £10 weekly which then adds up to £490 a year. This is an extortionate amount for a child from the ages of 5-15 travelling to school everyday. Not to even mention young people from the ages of 16-21 who would have to pay £501 for an upfront year ticket. However, if they pay £14 weekly it adds up to £686 yearly for families to pay for their child which is shocking. Less than half of Bristol residents travel to work by car, with the majority travelling by public transport. Bristol also has one of the most underused public transport services in the UK, and one of the main causes of this is the overpricing of tickets. Please help us reach 300 signatures so we can help lower the bus fares in Bristol.
