There is an apparent prevailing issue of discrimination and unequal treatment toward Persons with Disabilities in the workplace. Furthermore, their various opportunities and extensive participation in social, economic, and political aspects are hindered. It seems that there is a pressing concern for social awareness for equality and inclusion for those with disabilities as those said individuals' fundamental human rights are being infringed upon. Around 15% of the world's population are people with disabilities. In many countries, people with disabilities are stigmatized (United Nations). The stigma persons with disabilities typically experience is often the result of false assumptions. An example of this is that people with disabilities are unable to learn or that their impairment is 'catching.' Maria Buenaobra says that "despite the passage of Republic Act 7277 or the Magna Carta for people with disabilities in 1991, which guarantees their right to employment, health, education, and auxiliary services, there are still significant barriers that keep them from fully participating in society, including the stigma surrounding a disability and society's poor understanding of the abilities and aspirations of the disabled people." Even though the government amended act 7277, otherwise known as the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, it is still a pervasive issue. This proves that there are still concerns and issues regarding implementing and enforcing the law, which is intended to protect PWDs.
