Why this petition matters

Started by Ives Artis

September 12th 2007 after sitting in Philadelphia County jail one of the most dangerous county jails in the country Ives "Stretch" Artis was wrongfully convicted of a crime he did not commit. Falsified documentation, statements, dirty detectives and not being identified by the only eyewitness. Ives was forced to take a plea to save his own life as they sought the Death penalty. DNA forensic specialist detected no DNA or gun shot residue and the described clothing was never recovered. Witness described suspect as being 5'6 and 160lbs while Stretch being 6'3 and north of 200lbs no other suspects were ever developed. The infamous detective Thomas J. Augustine #658 coerced then forced Ives to sign a statement and documented a place Ives never was. Michael J. Gross #731 and Leon Lubiejewski #743 also played

Ives gave lawyers alibi witnesses exact locations and phone numbers lawyers never investigated. Frustrated with his lawyers non activity he refused to work with them, that's when the lawyers put him in contact with a lifer who had been incarcerated longer then he had been alive (32 years) who advised and counseled him. Ives ”Stretch" Artis is another case that has lead to a black man convicted of a crime he did not commit. To add insult to injury Thomas J. Augustine was allowed to still be apart of the Philadelphia Police Department after the egregious acts of misconduct dating back to the 1980's.
