August 2021 UPDATE:

With the State Government building a new bridge to the west (petition objective 1) and incorporating significant community consultation within the design process (petition objective 3), we believe the opportunity still remains to create something really special for Western Australia.

We propose a full reuse of the old bridge converting it into a linear park with space for pedestrians, cyclists, fisherman, dolphin spotters, boat watchers. market stalls and more (petition objective 2). We are doubling down on this objective as it is the only one the State Government has not responded too.

A Perth Highline could be a sanctuary over the Swan River, connecting the North and the East Fremantle Communities. We see it as the Jewel in the Crown of the Maritime Trail that reaches from Woodmans Point to North Beach. Where you can cycle, walk or run through Fremantle Harbour and along the beaches.

There is a huge opportunity to create a visionary entry into Fremantle by transforming the current bridge into a vibrant place for people. A place the community, cyclists and pedestrians can enjoy.

Please note: The request for donations after you have signed the petition is to support Change.org and the amazing work they do administering this platform. It does not support this campaign. Please do not feel a donation is required.

FIGHT FOR THE FREMANTLE TRAFFIC BRIDGE: Ensuring the best outcome for the people and place

Our beloved Fremantle Traffic Bridge is coming up to 82 years old and needs some serious love. The WA State Government has received funding from the Federal Government to replace the bridge in the coming years.

This petition calls on the WA Government and Main Roads, WA to

1. Build a new bridge to the WEST (downstream and away from the residents of Northbank)
2. Transform the old Bridge into community infrastructure a la New York’s High Line with a very West Australian flavour.
3. Ensure the community is engaged through the entire design and development process through inclusive, transparent and intensive co-design and community engagement.

If you are keen to elevate your support, please email and phone your local MP and Minister Saffioti.
