Rachel Mallet started this petition to Fife Council & Scottish Government

There are currently more than 1,000 children awaiting an autism assessment in Fife. Many of the children on this waiting list have been on it for a number of years and most have no idea when they can expect to be assessed.

This is leading to immense stress and pressure on families affected as the appropriate support cannot be accessed without a professional diagnosis via the Fife Autism Pathway. These families are having to cope with incredible difficulty each day and often with no light at the end of a tunnel knowing it may be years before they can obtain a diagnosis and consequently any support.

Not only does this leave the families affected in a dire position but it places additional burden on other resources such as teachers and bodies like NHS24 and Police Scotland who are frequently contacted out of desperation.

In spite of all of this, no concrete action plan seems to exist to clear this backlog and I am petitioning to ask Fife Council to create an action plan to rapidly clear this backlog and give these families the support they deserve. If Fife Council cannot achieve this the Scottish Government should step in and take action to support these families who are currently being failed.
