Reinstate a budget for maintaining unadopted roads in Fife
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
We, the undersigned call on Fife Council to reinstate a budget for maintaining unadopted roads.
Why is this important?
- There are hundreds of miles of unadopted roads which receive no budgeted maintenance from Fife Council.
- Maintenance falls to locals who use the roads, and costs are often unaffordable; this results in severely potholed and eroded surfaces.
- Until 2009 there was a six figure budget for maintaining unadopted roads in Fife. After 2009 it was reduced every year, until 2015 when it disappeared completely.
- Residents who live in unadopted streets/roads which were previously maintained by the Council now find that the Council refuses to repair them. In some cases only part of the street is not adopted, which means that residents living in similar houses and paying the same council tax receive differing levels of service.
The greater the number of signatures, the more pressure we can exert on the administration at the upcoming budget negotiations. This won't solve the problem entirely; a long term solution needs to be agreed upon, but it will allow the worst affected surfaces to be addressed.
