Drop all charges against Paolo Guerrero, let him play the World Cup

This petition is about justice for a man who is nothing but an outstanding role model for our children and a true ambassador of sportsmanship and fair play.

After getting an adverse result in the anti-doping test completed after Peru's 0-0 World Cup qualifying draw with Argentina on October 5. Paolo Guerrero is facing a possible suspension that may leave him out of the World Cup in Russia.

His team of lawyers have presented his allegations to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee proving that he never consumed cocaine and that the substance found on his blood was the result of drinking a tea contaminated with coca leaves that’s was given to Paolo by his nutritionist.

All this was clearly an accident, however, is well known that for FIFA in the past this type of accidents or involuntary consumption of substances never ended well for the player. And despite proving accidental consumption there was always a sanction and a suspension from playing for up to four years.

We know that Gianni Infantino is building a new FIFA and wants to make it a better organization at all levels so my petition is simple here, let’s make history and without looking at what has been done before, this needs to be resolved with justice and considering all angles, the athlete can’t be punished with a suspension that may end his career or jeopardize his participation in the World Cup for consuming something he didn’t know contained a banned substance.

He already missed the playoffs against New Zealand that may have cost Peru a place in next years World Cup, he also missed the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana with his club Flamengo and if the suspension continues he will also miss the finals. Paolo didn’t do anything wrong, he’s an exemplary athlete and human being, he is where he is because he has worked very hard to be there, so let’s be fair and let him go with a warning, a fine, or even a 30 days suspension that he has completed already and was enough punishment for someone who was clearly innocent and that on the contrary stands out and represents everything FIFA wants to promote.
