Ferry County Says NO to Dollar General

Please join us in protecting Republic, Washington and the greater Ferry County community from the negative impacts of big box chain store Dollar General by voicing your opinion.
WE SAY NO TO DOLLAR GENERAL and yes to locally owned and operated businesses. We want to preserve Ferry County's heritage and rural way of life. Although the perceived tax benefit and promise of new jobs seems alluring, as a company with almost 30 billion dollars in annual revenues and 17,000 stores, this box store not only threatens our family owned and operated businesses, but also the local businesses and farms that supply products and goods to these stores. Any property tax or job benefit would be quickly erased by the closing of other great, local stores.
The Dollar General is out of scale, its overall character and scope inconsistent with our community identity. Traffic in the proposed Dollar General site area will be chaotic at best, especially at school drop off and pickup. The location is a stone’s throw from Republic School, the new Skate Park and the Sanpoil River watershed. The proposed large building and parking lot are located directly on Washington's Scenic Route 20 where nearby Sanpoil River waters flow south from Republic through the Colville National Forest, Okanogan–Wenatchee National Forest, and the Colville Indian Reservation. No location within Ferry County is acceptable to the people who live, work and visit this wild, pristine place.
I sign this petition because Ferry County’s open space and rural way of life is our greatest asset and we want to preserve it for generations to come. We welcome and value family owned business and locally produced goods that enhance the value of this asset. We want to attract businesses such as shops, hospitality, restaurants, tourism, agriculture, and locally produced goods that create lasting economic opportunities while increasing our quality of life. We refuse to risk our way of life, our children's safety or the integrity of our waters. We ask the leadership of the City of Republic and the leadership of Ferry County to honor the people’s will as evidenced in our way of life, and in our commitment to preserve our rural character for all the aforementioned reasons.
By signing this petition, I certify that I am a permanent or seasonal resident or visitor of Ferry County, Washington, and should Dollar General open in this County, will not shop there and will vote instead with my dollars to support local businesses.
