Rose Bruford Feminist Society started this petition to FemSoc RBC and

We pledge to improve our personal and professional knowledge of consent and actively ensure the safety and consent of everyone we interact with, both within and outside of Rose Bruford.

We pledge to ensure all actors, directors, performers, musicians, stage managers, lighting designers, lighting programmers, theatre designers, costume designers, scenic artists and anyone else involved in our work, are supported in a safe and empowering environment. We will ensure that everyone gives full and enthusiastic consent to the content of our work, the training we undertake and all other aspects of the theatre making process.

We pledge to take swift and efficient action in situations when consent is violated. We will support and uplift the voices of victims, without shame, doubting or any behaviour that would add to their distress. We want to utilise the systems of support and reporting within our college, but we expect those procedures to have our welfare at heart.

We demand improvement of the rape and harassment reporting policy and we demand it now.

We call on the principal and staff to work together with RBC Feminist Society and their network of specialist contacts to bring about change and improvement to the existing policies in order to make our school as supportive of victims as we know it can be.

We demand this action out of love and respect for our school, our community, our peers and our staff. We know Rose Bruford College has the potential to be a forerunner in the fight against the industry wide problems of harassment and abuse.

We need change and we demand it now. We expect Rose Bruford to:

·        Improve the rape and harassment reporting policies and investigation procedures, to centre the safety and wellbeing of victims. Including; more efficient and timely investigations, better communication with victims at each step of an investigation, better access to specialist support and counselling, eradication of victim-blaming language, when reasonable evidence is provided that perpetrators are excluded from our college.

·        Improve staff’s (both visiting and permanent) knowledge of dealing with harassment in order to ensure students feel safe coming forward when incidents occur.

·        Provide more rigorous workshops around consent, including sexual consent, consent to intimacy or sensitive subjects on stage and safeguarding within the rehearsal room for all students.

·        Make attendance of the consent workshops during Freshers Week mandatory for enrolment.

·        Provide training with intimacy choreographers - in the same manner a fight choreographer would be employed in order to stage a fight.
