Essex, Hudson, Mercer and Union Counties were devastated by the aftermath of Hurricane Ida on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Death toll alone in these four counties totaled 10 and several people are still missing.

All counties sustained flooded streets, buckled roadways and submerged downtowns. Some locations were over waist deep in water, but they were left off the list for federal funding.  Many people lost housing, cars, personal property, and more.  Most people did not have flood insurance and homeowners insurance is not covering these losses.  FEMA aid would help people recover quicker from this devastation.
