Rice Tariffication Bill has been a major topic of interest since mid-year of 2018. According to previous reports, President Duterte will soon sign the Rice Tariffication Bill into law, nearly a month after the bicameral conference committee approved it. This bill will be an amendment of the two-decade-old Agricultural Tariffication Act of 1996, which will pave the way for lifting the quantitative restrictions that have allowed Philippine authorities to limit the volume of rice imports every year.

We, as Filipino youth showing concern on the current issue of the country, believe that there should be a fair and just pricing involving the supply and demand of rice. In line with this, we are hoping to gain support from fellow Filipino Citizens. Considering our vision and mission, we stand by the farmers' rights and maintain the authorization of National Food Authority (NFA). This is for the reasons that business proprietors shouldn't be the one who manipulates the prices of the imported rice, that smugglers would take advantage of the arrival of the rice imports because of liberalized importation policy, and under tariffication, more private traders are allowed to import resulting to the flooding of imported rice and making the monitoring of rice imports more difficult.

With these reasons and more, we believe that Rice Tariffication Bill shouldn't be approved by the bicameral conference committee, so that President Rodrigo Duterte will not sign this bill into law. For further information, contact us at RTBpetition@gmail.com.
