Voter turnout in the US is low compared to the rest of the free world. How can the will of the people be known if almost half of Americans who are allowed to vote simply don't? Congress should do the following to protect American democracy and American freedoms:

1. Encourage states to automatically register eligible voters. Voter registration should not be opt-in.
2. Make election day a national holiday to ensure people have the opportunity to vote.
3. Provide a $100 tax credit to anyone who votes in a federal election.

Republican or Democrat, we should all agree that the will of the people is important to preserving American freedom. These three simple steps would help us better uncover that will.
