Australian Families need Au Pairs from overseas so they can get back to work. Au Pairs live as part of a family providing affordable and flexible childcare whilst enjoying cultural exchange. Families who cannot access mainstream daycare rely on Au Pairs for childcare. Most of these families are essential workers and rural workers. The Cultural Au Pair Association of Australia (CAPAA) requests that the Federal Minister for Trade and Tourism, Simon Birmingham give urgent consideration to a dispensation for international Au Pairs from Working Holiday agreement countries who are scheduled to travel to Australia to complete an Au Pair placement with an Australian family in 2020. Why? As families begin to return to work, many who have previously relied upon Au Pairs will be left with no suitable childcare. This particularly affects families in regional locations without readily available childcare, and essential worker families who rely upon flexible care. CAPAA is calling on the Federal Minister and the Australian Government to give urgent consideration to a dispensation for the Au Pair industry to operate with quarantine arrangements in place, in the same way the Government is actively considering similar arrangements for the international education sector. Please support families that rely on international Au Pairs and urge the Government to allow them arrival into Australia to join families that need them.
