See the news story below for more details.
Right now Australia needs to be aiming higher for education, not pulling back the funding that helps students get the skills they need for future employment. We need to tell the Minister for Higher Education, Kim Carr, to start afresh with the university sector and reverse the announced cuts.
On May 14, the announcement of the Federal Government's budget confirmed the government’s plan to cut $2.3billion from our higher education sector. This funding reduction will have an impact on the development of future Australian workers’ skills and knowledge and, in turn, our future services. We know a strong education sector enables all of us build better communities and a stronger economy.
Already thousands of people have shown their disapproval to these cuts by taking to the streets--and to social media--to tell the government it is just not good enough. If we are going to be a country with a smart 21st century economy we have to make sure that the government values tertiary education.
