Belinda Smith started this petition to Federal Members of Parliament

The Federal Commonwealth will provide an estimated total financial contribution to the States of $245.7 million (GST exclusive according to budget documents) for the National School Chaplaincy Programme, this money should be diverted to fire fighting services. The Australian community view fire fighting services as an essential service, where people have put their life at risk. The fire fighting services needs water bombers, breathing equipment and masks for volunteers.

Parents who send their children to use the National School Chaplaincy should send their children to Sunday services at churches. The Australian community understands the seriousness of the fires and environmental damage and that this needs long term ongoing financial support.

we, the Australian community are united in our support for our fire fighting services and demand that the National School Chaplaincy Programme, which is not an essential service, be reallocated to fire fighting services.

Some National School Chaplaincy Programme funding will have been allocated but given it is mainly a volunteer Programme all remaining funds should be reallocated for fire fighting services.
