We want to reform the Affirmative Action Policy, so the policy includes private companies and institutions like colleges under the policy. Affirmative Action is designed to eliminate discrimination among applicants, remedy the impacts of prior discrimination, and prevent discrimination in the future. Applicants can be applying to an educational program or looking for professional employment. The policy focuses on discrimination on the basis of, at the very least, race, creed, color, and national origin. Since Affirmative Action is a government policy, it tends to point its focus towards government-funded companies and institutions. Leaving private companies and institutions free to make their own regulations. Private companies can then regulate their own admission standards and discriminate against specific groups of people. Like how STEM companies and STEM college programs accept more men than women and accept fewer minorities overall. Since we are women interested in pursuing STEM careers we would really appreciate a change in the policy. This petition is for a group project but we are extremely passionate about the subject. Any signatures or support would be greatly appreciated. For more information, follow @beautyinSTEM on Instagram.
