Throughout the nation staff, educators, parents and students are rushing back into schools, ignoring the  impacts this will have on the health of the parents, students and teachers.

After spending a year using a virtual platform, some schools are pivoting back toward in-person learning. The risk of contracting Covid-19 within the walls of public schools has heightened. Teachers are forced to quarantine and use their sick leave to pay for viruses contracted from students that they serve daily. Teachers are frontline workers and should be compensated for workplace hazards, and provided with onsite rapid testing.

Join us by signing this petition to support paid sick leave due to Covid-19 for educators throughout the nation.

We are requesting that educators receive the following from the federal and state governments.

1.Acknowledgement that exposure to COVID-19 strains is an occupational hazard for school staff and they should receive hazard pay. This should be explained and released in updated contracts for all educators.

2.School staff should be compensated for time off during their quarantine periods. Suggested allowance of 80 hours to accommodate testing periods and quarantine.

3. District and individual schools should be transparent about the covid-19 cases in the district and individual schools.

4. Effective strategic plans to effectively minimize the exposure to COVID-19 strains should be in place.

Effective strategic plan suggestions are listed below:

-Consistent on-site COVID -19 testing should be mandatory for both students and staff entering campus.
-Testing can be weekly and uploaded to an app which gives you a QR code to be scanned for entry to the facility.
