Childcare Funding for Low-income Families
Childcare Funding for Low-income Families
The Covid-19 pandemic has shone a spotlight on numerous existing problems crippling the Canadian economy, such as the need for a publicly funded childcare system for low-income families.
As Early Childhood Educators, we understand that a child’s early years are the foundation for both future development and success. We are asking you to sign this petition to bring awareness for the Canadian government to publicly fund childcare for low-income families. Children from low-income families face many future academic challenges such as unsuccessful progression through elementary school, not graduating high school, and are less likely to attend post-secondary school. Having an adequate early childhood education can change this trajectory; it is not merely a preparation for primary school, but a focus on the holistic development of a child’s physical, cognitive, communicational, emotional, and social needs. Unfortunately, many families are unable to afford childcare due to the excessive costs, for instance, many families in Toronto pay up to $20, 000 a year for childcare; this has a significant financial and economic impact on both families and society. A publicly-funded childcare system for low-income families is not an expense, but an investment for Canadian society.
As Early Childhood Educators, we recognize that children are the most vulnerable in society, that is why we ask you to sign this petition and help make a difference by raising awareness.
