Why this petition matters

Started by Nick Lintern

There needs to be changes made to the way child support is calculated and distributed to recipients. Basing payments on annual salary and not the actual cost of supporting a child is out of date, unjust and extremely biased towards recipients. They should have to provide evidence of trying to find alternate income to support their own lives and the child support money should then only be used for supporting the children.

As paying fathers there is no hesitation in supporting our children however, the system needs to be fair and just. The recipient of the funds should be held accountable for providing evidence as to what the funds have been spent on and the best way to do this is with a cashless card that can only be used for groceries and clothing for the children.

I for one have to constantly deal with eChild Services Australia where I have to pay my partner child support even though she only supports one child. I support our two children, one who is with me 100% of the time and the other child every other weekend and school holidays yet I have to pay her support even though I look after both children because she refuses to go full time to increase her income. There is no common sense in this outdated system and changes need to be made. We parents paying child support request a voice in parliament to discuss alternative options so that funds for our children are calculated fairly and inline with the cost of support our children not the parent.

please support this petition to show that we are a significant voice in Australia and I’m sure around the world that what the system reformed.
