Why this petition matters

Started by tigist mengistu

My fellow Ethiopian we are living in very sad times where ethnic and religious based killings are becoming every day events in Ethiopia. In the last year alone 1000 such events have taken place in our beloved country.

Ethiopia is a country of many ethnic groups. Experts tell us the number reaches up to 85. The current  constitution was presented to the country with the promise that it will protect and promote the rights and identity of every ethnic group. In the last 40 years many ethnic groups have taught us and introduced us to their culture.

Many Ethiopian agree in continuing the promotion of local governments and devolution of centralized power.

The down side of the constitution are many. It was not drawn and approved by the people but by few groups mainly TPLF who happened to hold the reigns of power. Ethiopian people have not been consulted on it or had a chance to vote on it. The ethnic divisions it created is leading to genocide and apartheid system in Ethiopia.

We the people want a constitution that is written and approved by us.

- We want a constitution that respects the right of every individual and not a constitution that defends the oppression of those who are 'the wrong' ethnic group. -We want a constitution that celebrates and respects the life and the potential of every person in Ethiopia.

-We want a constitution that respects inclusiveness and love and not one promotes hate and exclusion

Please join me in signing and presenting this request to the federal government of Ethiopia.
