Following a 2018 Presidential Election strongly criticised by over a dozen Latin American countries including, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Brasil, as well the United States and the European Union as a “sham,” the Organisation of American States, the top regional meeting of government in Latin America, has chosen to not recognise the legitimacy of Nicolas Maduro’s new term as president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The Venezuelan Australian Democratic Council, honouring its mission to promote democracy and help protect civil liberties in Venezuela and beyond, is calling upon the Government of Australia to follow suit and take a stand against the Maduro regime and its various human rights abuses by also refusing to recognise the legitimacy of Nicolas Maduro’s new term as President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
