Richard Derks started this petition to Federal Government and

Parents get little guidance when purchasing a child seat as the only comment made by staff at stores is that they all meet the Australian Safety Standards. They will often point you to the more expensive items with special safety features. They do not suggest to the purchaser that you should go to the 5 star rating system on the net that crash tests child seats. Often the more expensive seats get lower crash test ratings. Recently I compared 30 or so seats in a brochure and found that the expense of the seat means nothing. Parents are being ripped off and more importantly their children are being placed at risk of injury by not being fully aware of all the testing that has been done on the particular child seat they are purchasing.

The federal government must introduce a 5 star rating system on all car seats sold in Australia. Motor vehicles have been promoting and using the star crash rating system to sell vehicles for many years. There is no plausible reason why car seat manufacturers do not. This is deception. The current system is deceiving parents into believing the seat is the safest seat for their child because it meets the Australian standards.

Make children as safe as possible. Act Now!
