Free MRI's for Breast Cancer patients over the age of 50

I am a Breast Cancer patient over the age of 50. My surgeon has requested that I have an MRI to make sure my cancer has not returned. I have looked into having the MRI at a public hospital but have been told that because I am over 50 that I am not eligible. Also because I have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer this is rules me out as well. The cost of having an MRI privately is approximately $600 which is a lot of money for a pensioner. I am at a loss to understand why the Government has put this age limit on MRI's. People over 50 would be in the group that most likely would be unable to afford $600 for this essential service. I have started this petition in the hope that this ridiculous rule can be changed.
