Shut down the Dakota Access Pipeline before 2017

For months, an ongoing battle has been waging in North Dakota between the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and Energy Transfer Partners, the company infamous for building environmentally degrading pipelines. The company's newest project, the Dakota Access pipeline, is proposed to transport crude oil from the North Dakota through South Dakota and Iowa into Illinois. Traveling through four states and 50 counties, including burial grounds and sacred land belonging to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. Tribe members are fearful that a leak in the pipeline could contaminate the same water their children play in, drink from, and bathe in. Unfortunately their concerns aren't unfounded, in fact pipeline leaks are a very common occurrence. Sunoco Logistics Partners, the general associate of Energy Transfer Partners, has experienced 200 leaks since 2010. Not only is the pipeline's current route risking the water supply of Tribe members though, the pipeline would also threaten water in the Mississippi River which thousands of Americans rely on. The current pipeline's construction has been stopped by the Army Corps of engineers, but we fear that the halt in construction will be temporary, due to the support for the pipeline by the Trump administration. That is why our main goal is to pressure the white house into forcibly shutting down the Dakota Access Pipeline before 2017.
