Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, countries have enacted measures to curb the spread of the novel virus. Social Distancing laws and Stay-at-home orders have become mandatory practices. The goal of this petition is to influence the decision of the governments and Online Dating companies. Online Dating websites and apps are not currently regulated or held responsible for who meets who. A non-symptomatic virus carrier who is an online dating user can meet in private with another and spread the Coronavirus to many people. Many online dating websites cater to the casual daters, who engage in Romantic activity on the first day. This can spread the virus very fast in private residences. There is no measure of controlling private citizens from seeing strangers for dating purposes. The same cannot be said for public meetings or as in normal offline dating, which are currently heavily regulated. A couple cannot go to a restaurant for safety reasons, however strangers can easily meet up for casual sex by using online dating websites/smartphone apps. There is contradiction here. We cannot just restrict one aspect of life, while ignoring another. Online dating is a problem during a pandemic, especially when there is no regulations in it. The sooner we can stop the spread of COVID-19, the faster we can allow all kinds of social activity to continue as normal!
