Yvonne Le Fevre started this petition to Federal and state government

In Australia, since 2013, each state government has introduced a Fire Service Levy payable by every property owner ( both residential and commercial) as part of council rates.

In Victoria alone nearly $800m is collected every year and it  is meant to fund the Metro and Country Fire Service.

Why is it that Australia appears so under resourced to take proactive, preventive measures rather than wait for these catastrophic events that jeapodise the lives of many, including selfless volunteers and fail those who have lost their lives, property and animals and for all the wildlife that have no voice. This cost is immeasurable.

The government needs to provide full disclosure to every Australian exactly where this money has gone over the years, as it does not look like it has been channelled in the right direction.

It also needs to provide at least a 10 year strategic plan to be openly available to the public  on how the government is intending to use the funds for the future protection of Australia.

All Australians are being impacted by the devastating impacts of fires and climate change. The government has the future protection of Australia in their hands and need to be able to show what steps they have taken in the past and what positive steps they are taking for the future.
