Hands off using brewery grain for feed

NICK KASOFF started this petition to FDA and

For as long as we've brewed beer, brewers have disposed of "spent grain" by using it for animal feed. This is a nutritious, high quality feed product. My backyard chickens go crazy for it!

Chances are, your local microbrewery donates their grain to a local farmer. Now, the FDA is considering regulations which would make it cost prohibitive for microbreweries to do this. Instead of giving animal feed to farmers, which amounts to feeding with zero environmental impact, they'll put the grain in trash dumpsters and it'll be trucked to landfills, a significant negative for the environment. Meanwhile, farmers will be purchasing more feed, the production of which also has a significant environmental impact. Multiply this by the more than 2,000 brewpubs and microbreweries in the United States, and the environmental impact will be huge.

The FDA is attempting to regulate where there is no problem. And in doing so, they will be seriously harming the environment. Ask President Obama to tell the FDA to keep their hands off - no regulation is needed for the use of brewery grain for animal feed.
