Jake W started this petition to FCPS and

Kids and teachers of all ages are going to be tired after watching the Super Bowl since it generally last until late at night. We who sign this are requesting ,if this petition gets enough support, for FCPS to cancel or at the very least delay school on February 3rd.

A good amount of people tend to have super bowl parties which involve alcohol consumption. If these people have to rush to get home because of school then that makes it incredibly unsafe for any one including inexperienced teens trying to get home. You teach us about making smart decisions and risk factors yet not having school would just make a problem a lot worse.

A lot of teachers and students enjoy watching the Super Bowl too which means that a lot of teachers and students will not be able to teach or learn very well since they didn’t get a good sleep.A lot a students futures depend on them being able to learn from teachers being able to teach their best. While one may ask “why don’t you just go to bed early” most people would not watch some of the super bowl ,the biggest sporting event in America which happens once a year, and then go to bed before the end.

For those who worry about time off school it is only one day out of almost 2 weeks of days we can afford to miss. At the rate we currently going with delays and snow days we will not use all of them up which allows for the ability to cancel or delay school.

All that the students, parents and teachers who sign this ask is that we have a 2 hour delay or a cancellation of school on February 3rd due to the many problems and risk that come with not having school off. This petition has been made this early for 2 reasons:so that FCPS can find out about this earlier, the support can grow so please spread the word. Finally if we get enough signers, according to the SRR we are entitled to expect a response if a issue is beyond that off a principal so again please sign.
