Magdalena Wałasiewicz started this petition to FCI and

We, the Great Danes breeders, hereby ask the FCI authorities for reconsideration the issue of harlequin - harlequin matings.
Since this ban entered into force, the quality of Great Danes in this color has deteriorated dramatically. Even when we succeed to find a valuable dog in the color of harlequin, or even mantle or black (from the harlequin), the dog comes always from mating in kennels from the countries where this ban is not obeyed. We want all breeders to have the opportunity to make their own decision on harlequin- harlequin matings and equal chances to develop their breeding in this color. We don't want to cover only to survive - we want matings that will actually improve the breed. Referring to the concerns about weaker puppies born from such matings, please take into consideration that there are breeds such as Dalmatians, English Setters, Border Collies, Australian Cattle Dogs, Cocker Spaniels, Bull Terriers or Dogo Argentino in which it is practically impossible to exclude the birth of deaf puppies. Such puppies are born, they are part of breeding, and it is up to us, the breeders to take care of the special good of such puppies while making decision on such mating - controversial but very, very necessary mating. We expect the same confidence in us, Great Dane’s breeders, as other breeders receive.
