6th form should not be mandatory in Jamaica
In Jamaica there is a new law being brought forth that you can not graduate until you've completed grades 1 through 13. It is currently the norm to graduate in grade 11/5th form. This change takes a toll on people who don't have the money to afford 6th form, don't need it to further their future career or simply just don't want to do it because it is seen as a waste of two years and money. Not everyone benefits from 6th form. A good number actually regret doing it. It's really unfair to have to wait two extra years to graduate for literally no reason. This will have an immense negative impact. There will be an increase in highschool "dropouts" since plenty of people will decide to just not go and won't get to graduate. There will also be people who can't afford the extra two years since you have to pay to attend. I personally planned on going to the Caribbean Maritime University as soon as I graduated in 5th form to study logistics. I will have to wait two whole extra years doing basically nothing because 6th form affects my area of study in no way ,shape or form. It's just really unfair to have to wait untill you're 19 years of age to graduate. I also think that once an individual has the credits, they should be able to graduate highschool.
