Farm Boy: Reduce plastic waste!

Plastic waste is a mounting problem for our environment, and Canada's grocery stores are slow to lead the change in reducing plastic waste. 8 million metric tons of plastic enters the Earth's ocean annually, and 40% of the plastic that is produced in the world is for packaging. Since the 1950s, 8.3 billion tons of plastic has been produced, but in the last 10 years, only 23% of it has been recycled. The best way to reduce the amount of plastic entering our oceans and our land is to reduce the use of it in the first place. But when you live in Canada, and your only source of food in the winter is at the grocery store, it is frustrating and counter-productive to have to buy a single bell pepper packaged in plastic.

Farm Boy is one of Ontario's leading grocery stores, and it values locally grown and produced foodstuffs. For this reason, we are calling on Farm Boy to STOP selling produce unnecessarily wrapped in plastic and be the industry leader in the fight to protect our environment.

The need to protect our lands and our oceans is URGENT and it is easier to do our part when grocery stores such as Farm Boy help us by making a commitment to END PLASTIC WASTE.
