Farafenni Must Be An Independent Constituency...

Following the recently concluded parliamentary elections, it brought to light the injustice and marginalization that my people Farafennians, have long being enduring since independence, 52 years ago. Farafenni has not been well represented and this time will not be any better. Evidence to this, is the million dollar traditional differences of MPs representing communities with fewer human and material resources than the cosmopolitan city of Farafenni.
Radical examples are as fellows: Banjul 3 reps, Brikama 3 reps, Serekunda 3 reps, Basse of it's own, Wulli both West and East to name just a few. So statistically, in these areas, every 18,000 people is represented during law makings and distributions of federal resources while Farafenni alone is over 30,000 people according to 2013 census. Obviously, we're not getting our fair share of the cake.
Non of these constituencies is more than Farafenni in either seize or population and non of them contributes more than Farafenni towards the socioeconomic development of The Gambia, be it economically, democratically or even academically. We have long being isolated, maybe because we are up town as The Gambia government sees only Banjul and it's greater areas as important locations for rapid development.
They care about us only when it's time for elections. Well, no more because we must have our deserve attentions and representations from the government. The Gambia government must be ready to be well decentralize now! Join the bandwagon for the next generation to at least feel Gambian by having their own MPs who will be answerable to them.
The sense of inequality base on geographical location is over because no city in The Gambia can single handily contribute more than Farafenni. Let's not forget that Farafenni is also the only city where the dictator has no signal vote during the presidential elections, that goes to tell the new government that we need changes much more than any other town. Rural marginalization is a thing of the past and decentralization is the order of the 21th century for any developing country and The Gambia cannot be left behind. Farafenni is a hotspot for our nation's economy, it deserves a fair if not relatively more and better treatment.
