We have a growing issue where individuals cannot get a family doctor in BC (& many other areas of Canada). They are forced to use walk-in clinics and often go years without anyone helping them with their medical issues. If you happen to get injured and have an active WorkSafe or ICBC claim, most doctors are now refusing to treat you. Does this not create an environment where the victim of the injury, is made to be yet a victim again? Instead of concentrating on healing they spend hours, days, months trying to find a medical professional to provide the reports needed to get the compensation for the health issues created by the accident (either WorkSafe or ICBC).

This perpetual cycle exasperates the situation further and often creates even more stress and injury to the person who has suffered the accident. 

We need accountability from our government in providing the necessary and needed health care every Canadian deserves. We need politicians who take this issue to the legislature and speaks on our behalf to get effective change to happen so we can move forward and be a nation of healthy individuals who treat those who have been injured with dignity and compassion. We need doctors not being able to refuse to see patients because they've been injured. We need change and we need it yesterday.

This petition was started to support John Berfelo, who has spent the last 17 years battling WorkSafe & ICBC, not because he did anything wrong, but because he's been the victim of a work place accident and numerous vehicle accidents, none of which were his own fault. The latest one was being t-bones by a vehicle who blew through a stop sign going 80-100km, while looking at his cell phone. John ended up in a deep ditch, he's lucky to be alive. But he doesn't have a GP doctor, so he can't get what he needs to get his health issues taken care of. Let's change that, for John, and anyone else who is in the same situation!
