Summary: Possible closing of the integrated-day international languages program at the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

The issue: Toronto Catholic District School Board is deciding if the integrated-day international languages program in its elementary schools will continue. Before this decision is made we will have the chance to show the board that how much the program is valued by the community, parents and students. If we value the integrated-day language learning we need to voice that to the Ministry of Education and the TCDSB. This is a decision that will affect our student’s curriculum, families and communities. Ending the international language program instruction in TCDSB is contrary to every commitment that the TCDSB has made to the community it serves. This decision is being made without any consultation. Evidence in education shows that learning a third and even a forth language helps children excel in all areas of education. Besides the cognitive benefits, multilingualism is the ultimate 21 century social skill. In today’s interconnected multilingual and multicultural world foreign language skills are the essential global competencies and social skills for both personal and professional lives as well as in our role as global citizens.

Take action! Please Sign the online Petition and call your school trustee to tell them you support the integrated-day language program for international languages.
