Can your family take the challenge?

Can you be technology free for 2 hours on the 8 January 2020!?

MAKE YOUR PLEDGE TODAY!

Technology is a huge part of our lives. It helps us in many ways and has many benefits.

However studies have show that technology can have a negative impact on families.

These negative impacts include:

- Weak Parent-Child Bonding: Today's parents lead busy lives and technology can be a useful tool to keep their children distracted whilst they do housework, cook dinner or do other tasks. This negatively affects the bond or attachment between child and parent and can have impacts on the child's mental health, frustration tolerance and behaviours as they grow and mature. Children need to grow up and do these tasks so why not start teaching them whilst they are young.

- Poor Social Skills: Children become more comfortable communicating via technology then through face to face means. This will impact on their confidence and self-esteem when interacting in person with people.

- Decreased quality time: Today’s reality is that even when parents pretend to play with children or share some family moments, the emails or social media is taking away half or more of their attention.

- Limited outdoor activities: technology use usually requires the person to be inside and relatively still. This impacts on the person’s physical activity and vitamin D levels that are gained from the sun.

4610 Partnerships for Kids is asking South Burnett parents to pledge 2 hours of their family time on the 8th January 2020 to be technology free.

Two easy options on Wednesday 8th Jan 2020

                   10 – 12pm at all/any South Burnett Library

2 hours technology free at home / where ever you are.

Put your devices and screens away and PLAY instead.

CHOOSE ONE OF THE TWO OPTIONS AND MAKE YOUR PLEDGE TO JOIN US!

Stuck for ideas on non- technology things to do as a family try these:

- read a book together

- have a picnic

- Go to the Library (it's Free!)

- Go for a walk/ walk the dog

- visit a relative

- bake a cake

-Play a board game

- play cards

- make a cubby house

- Play Hide and Seek

- Go Fishing

- Plant a garden

Some tips to help keep the two hours screen/phone free.

· Put the phone on silent

· Set an alarm for the two hours so you are not tempted to check your phone

· Get pen and paper ready- so you can still write messages or things to do after the two hours

· Put a watch on (so you don’t check the phone for the time).
