By now, most of the community is aware of the incident that took place around 3PM yesterday (Nov. 9/21) afternoon roughly 300m from the school. As a parent of multiple students, whom attend Falconridge School, we need something to be done regarding the safety of all the students and their families.

I am confident many of you can agree with me, that parents/guardians should have been notified a little sooner. After waiting more than 20 minutes past the dismissal bell (which is scheduled for 3:10pm), a concerned parent called the school and was told that the school was put in an external lockdown (meaning no one in, no one out) due to a community threat. At this point, many parents were concerned and confused. The students were in lockdown from roughly 2:30pm-5:00pm and the parents were told by the Calgary Police that they didn't know how long their child/children were going to be in lockdown.

This is NOT the first time the house involved has had mass police presence. We all know that there are many places that need to be dealt with, but this one for sure has been a disturbance to the community.

I am hoping that with the help from the community, we can bring attention to the matter. In order for us to get these issues resolved sooner than later, we need to band together and show the city we are sick of these problems happening. The safety and well-being of our youth should be a top priority for everyone.

By signing this petition, we as a community can show the City of Calgary and the Calgary Police, that we are fed up with all of this. We need to come together and bring attention to the fact that our children’s safety is not being prioritized. We can not continue to have incidents like this happening at all, especially so close to a school.
