Why this petition matters

I am beyond done with how the school “handles” bullying, harassment, sexism, racism, and homophobia. Kid’s that have their own beliefs are more than welcome to have their own opinions on things, but when it comes to putting down other or MULTIPLE kids I think it’s a shame. I’m so tired of hearing these things walking down the hallway or even in class. Even if they are not targeted at me, it’s targeted at others. Let me remind you that we are CHILDREN. So as a child I shouldn’t have to be doing what I’m doing by coming on here to maybe get someone’s attention. I had a friend in class doing her work and a kid said a racial slur trying to be funny. I didn’t find it funny. She didn’t find it funny. You know who did? The entire class laughed and giggled as if that was a joke. It’s unnecessary and inappropriate. Not only did they laugh but the teacher didn’t say a word. Enough of that.. for now, kids that have a different sexuality than the typical white heterosexual male aren’t any less of a person. I hear kids getting called homophobic slurs all day, everyday. As I stated earlier, it may not effect me but it effects others. Kid’s have taken their life because of bullying and that just doesn’t get anybodies attention. Maybe for a few months, but after that it’s repetitive. I don’t understand how you want kids to sit there, be quiet, and do their work whenever getting bullied is all that’s on their mind. School is no problem but the derogatory name calling is too much. I hope this gets around to the right crowd and/or the school. Have a blessed day ❤️. - Alexis Philyaw
