Majorettes (AKA: Drummies): a sport that has formed part of the foundations of Fairmont High School, Durbanville, Western Cape, South Africa since its opening 44 years ago is under threat. It has been decided by the school that Drummies will no longer be offered as a sport from 2022. Girls who have experienced this sport can vouch for the impact it has played in their lives. It has created women of strength, compassion and leaders within their fields. It will be a detriment to any one who does not have the opportunity to consider this sport as an option. This sport is not just a sport; it is character building and often the home away from home that so many youngsters need. The life skills learnt from this sporting programme builds the future qualities needed to succeed in life and make life-long connections. The repercussions of not having Drummies at Fairmont will be detrimental, not only to the young students who depend on the sport but to the reputation of the school as a whole.
