Concerned Parents started this petition to Fairfield Board of Education and

Despite teachers and parents wanting to go back to school full time, face to face, we believe the Fairfield Board of Education did not represent the community's wishes as has been previously indicated. A hybrid model with attendance at only 50% in person learning has been approved citing they would re-evaluate six weeks after school starts.  Currently Jefferson County has a 3% positivity rate which is significantly below the guideline set by the Governor. If we don't return to learn in the best case scenario, we believe they never will for the school year. We haven't even begun flu season. All other surrounding counties are starting back face to face 100% but Fairfield despite the fact we are the county with the lowest percentage of cases. Starting at the hybrid stage leaves us absolutely no room for transition should the transmission worsen.   We should be jumping at the chance of getting as much face to face time with the kids as possible before the unknown future. We should be reaching out to the community for resources to spread the kids out. We could work with churches, the fair grounds, the Sondheim center, to get extra space to safely hold in person classes five days a week. The kids need to meet their teachers daily and establish a rapport with them. You can also dedicate a teacher per grade to the online learning so the remaining teachers can focus on their kids in class. The kids are continuing fall sports so it makes sense that a hybrid plan is unacceptable. We hope you will help our parents and teachers through this and reconsider the current return to learn plan and require full time attendance if the parents choose to do so. This is not only a child learning issue, it is a workforce and childcare issue as well. Our teachers are not equipped nor is there enough childcare in our community to make this happen realistically.

We hope this petition reaches the Board of Education, so they realize how many parents out there do not support the hybrid version that was approved. Those that want 100% online have that option, the option of full time face to face was taken away from those it would benefit.
