My petition is on removing tardy sweeps & extending passing periods. These two things are a big problem for students at our school. They cause us to get unnecessary detentions & unwanted pressure to come to class on time. Also the time it takes to write a student a tardy slip, we can be heading to class or already be there by now. on Greatschools.org it shows the percentage of students being late. 9% Hispanic, 7% Asian, 16% Black, and 19% White are late. Ultimately tardy sweeps should be removed & passing periods should be extended.

                     But one thing is that counselors & principals think that tardy sweeps & passing periods are important to motivate students to get to class on time.  However tardy sweeps are not working because they cause students to be even much more late to class. Tardy sweeps also cause kids too much pressure because they want to be on time & not get detention. this happens to kids at school including us. When we wake up we stress on trying to leave our homes as fast as possible just to get to school on time & if you are just 1 minute late we have to go get a tardy slip even if we are right next to our classroom and that is just completely unnecessary.

                     This is the reason tardy sweeps should be abolished from existence and passing periods should be extended. They don't benefit any students education from going to waste. So what we think the principal should do is remove tardy sweeps & extend passing periods it would help by not making students stressed to get to school on time & by not missing any important class time.
