Save the Tennis Courts!

Save the Tennis Courts!

The tennis community is opposed to sharing the tennis courts at Nottoway Park with Pickleballers. All the tennis courts are in very high demand. There are way too few courts in proportion to the number of tennis players in the Vienna/Fairfax area. As it is now, pickleball players are beginning to take over the tennis courts. I am happy to see people engaging in this new sport, but not at the expense of tennis. By putting pickleball lines on the courts, it would greatly diminish the public's ability to use them for tennis. Pickleball courts could be added to Nottoway Park in another area. To put lines on the tennis courts would make for too much competition for the courts.
This summer was a case in point. Between County programs, USTA matches, high school practice sessions, pickleball users, and other formal programs, the courts were in very high demand. If the county were going to spend money, it would be better spent on creating dedicated pickleball courts.
