Fairfax County Board of Supervisors: Amend the Wording of the Proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendment Regarding Residential Studio Units (RSUs)
This petition made change with 316 supporters!
Fairfax County is considering amending the current Zoning Ordinance to include a new class of housing called Residential Studio Units (RSUs). These units are geared towards low-income individuals earning 60% of the Area Medium Income (approximately $45,000/year). The current wording of the proposed amendment, however, does not preclude RSUs from being built in residential, single-family communities. The North Springfield Civic Association board of directors understands the impact this amendment has on our community and has developed the following petition:
We, the undersigned residents of the North Springfield residential community of Fairfax County and its supporters, hereby petition that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, our elected governing body, do not approve the current Proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendment with respect to the development of Residential Studio Units until and unless amended as follows:
Residential Studio Units are not permitted to be located in low-density, residential communities such as the North Springfield neighborhood. As such, the conversion of a single family dwelling to a residential studio shall not be permitted and no residential studio development shall be co-located on a lot with a single family dwelling.
