Cast Tom Hiddleston in a new film adaption of The Scarlet Pimpernel

The Issue

Fairbanks Productions was announced in 2010 to have been in the early pre-production stages of creating a film adaption of The Scarlet Pimpernel for which Neil Jackson was rumoured to be considered for the titular role.

Unfortunately, production ceased on the film when copyright issues arose in the UK and Fairbanks Productions turned their attention instead to making a new adaption of Ivanhoe. Fairbanks Productions' Executive Producer James Black stated that the company intends to revisit Pimpernel in five years time (2016), when all rights would return to the public domain.

Whether or not Fairbanks Productions decides to remake The Scarlet Pimpernel or not, another film company may very well pounce on the opportunity. With it being such a classic and compelling story, how can anyone overlook the opportunity?

And when production starts, they will be looking for just the right actor to play the elusive vigilante. I propose Tom Hiddleston for the part. Though he is best known for his portrayal of the Norse god Loki in Thor, The Avengers, and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World (and he plays the role brilliantly), he has also been in such productions as Wallander where he played opposite Kenneth Branagh, Archipelago, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris in which he portrayed F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Deep Blue Sea opposite Rachel Weisz, Stephen Spielberg's War Horse, and The Hollow Crown, a compilation of the three Shakespearean plays Richard II, Henry IV, and Henry V in which he played Prince Hal/Henry V, not to mention some of his theatre productions The Changeling (Alsemero), Cymbeline (Posthumus Leonatus/Cloten), Othello (Cassio), Ivonov (Lvov), and the upcoming Coriolanus (Coriolanus) to name a few. Not only does this man have an incredible breadth of experience as an actor, but he has the depth of a truly great thespian. He puts so much into everything that he does and is so kind that I don't know who wouldn't want to work with him. Also, he's even said that he would be interested in playing the part.

Please, he's such an incredible actor and human being and I know he would be truly remarkable bringing such an iconic literary hero to life.
