Equal flexible working & extended leave rights for all people!

The ultimate aim of this petition is to win equal rights for any employee to request flexible working or extended leave.
Currently under law, employers are required to provide extended leave for new parents, and consider requests for flexible working from primary carers of children school aged or younger, and from disabled people or their primary carers only. Many employers offer periods of paid parental leave, and even cash incentives to return to work.
Employers are not obliged to consider requests for flexible working or extended unpaid leave from employees who do not meet these criteria. Secondary care givers (often fathers), parents of grown up children, and those who are child free are often subject to last minute & after hours meeting requests and work location changes that primary carer colleagues are not; as they are considered to be without 'important' commitments and therefore more flexible. However they are not afforded the same rights under law as many of their workmates. This issue is exacerbated for single people, but that's another issue...
If we accept that all people can have full and meaningful lives, and their work, skills, and knowledge are equally valuable, then the law should acknowledge and provide fair opportunities for all people; regardless of their life path <3
