Fair Funding for ALL Students in the Sausalito Marin City School District

The problem facing our children:

Some representatives of the Marin County Office of Education and the Sausalito Marin City School District have publicly stated their disagreement with the District's duly adopted, common-sense policy of record: That District officials are accountable to ALL students in the Sausalito Marin City School District and that, accordingly, public resources must be allocated equitably and without regard to which of our two public schools students attend. This policy aligns with guidance from the California Department of Education, the California School Board Association and, most importantly, California law.

Alarmingly, however, the Marin County Office of Education and the Sausalito Marin City School District are currently pursuing action steps that run directly contrary to this policy: they seek to dramatically compound an already inequitable allocation of public resources based not on equity but instead based on whether students attend the traditional pubic school, Bayside Martin Luther King Jr. Academy, or the public charter school, Willow Creek Academy.

The proposed actions will have a devastating impact on the majority of high-needs kids in our District by inequitably defunding Willow Creek Academy.

This petition's ask:

As members of the Sausalito and Marin City communities, we respectfully request that the Sausalito Marin City School District (Superintendent and all current Trustees) publicly re-affirm and act in accordance with the District's stated policy adopted in the Memorandum of Understanding with Willow Creek Academy regarding allocation of resources:

The Sausalito Marin City School District shall allocate resources equitably and without regard to which public school (charter or traditional) students attend or where students live in the district.

The Sausalito Marin City School District is accountable to ALL students in the school district.

Further, we ask that the Sausalito Marin City School District publicly reject the FCMAT report recommendations that pertain to dramatically reducing funding to Willow Creek Academy.
