In an effort to restore the old mural that was painted in the courtyard, the staff has hired a novice college student to paint over past mural. The mural is meant to honor and celebrate Dr. Joseph N. Crooms and his wife Wealthy, the founders of Crooms Academy, Seminole County's first high school for African-Americans in a community that faced severe racial tension and segregation. This was a turning point for historic Goldsboro community of Sanford and is a stepping stone in the advancement of racial equality for all.

Crooms Academy has since been turned into Seminole County's Magnet School for Information Technology and has even acquired an official NAF certification. The academy has been mentioned in many articles and is ranked as one of the best magnet high schools in the state. Students have the opportunity to graduate with their Associate in Arts Degree; that's two years of college done, for free all paid for by the district.

The founders of Crooms Academy will not be forgotten and their actions will not be disgraced by a mural that does not respect the historical significance of not only the school, but the advancement in rights and equal opportunities for the african-american community. The Crooms Administration has hired a college student to paint the new mural and many believe that the mural should just be painted over and repainted by someone with more experience. The mural is disrespectful and is a disgrace to Dr. Joseph N. Crooms, his wife Wealthy Crooms, the Seminole County School District and its students, and citizens of the Historic Goldsboro Community, respectively.

The mural needs to be painted over, period.
