The Enrichment Challenge Program (abbreviated as ECP) is an elective at Lawrence Middle School in Lawrence Township, New Jersey. The program is designed to provide an extra challenge to extremely intelligent students at the school. I am a seventh-grade student who participates in the program, and I love it. My friends and I are given the opportunity to participate in so many fun activities. We participated in the National History Day competition, and are currently working on architecture and engineering.
Recently, my fellow students and I were shocked to learn that ECP will not continue operation next school year. We had to witness our teacher nearly break down in tears, and we almost did so as well. We were not given a clear explanation of why the program would not continue, but approximately a month ago, our school announced there would be a new elective introduced next year: Theatre Arts. We are not sure if ECP and Theatre Arts are unable to coexist due to budget issues, lack of interest, or any other reason, but we can't lose ECP. Don't get me wrong, theatre is a great activity, but so is enrichment. I don't want the two to compete: I want them to both be kept.
The Enrichment Challenge Program has no less of a right to exist than ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, or Theatre Arts. Please sign this petition to help convince the faculty at Lawrence Middle School to keep ECP. I can't imagine a future without it. It is a great program, and the school can't lose it.
