Why this petition matters

Normanton on Soar is a lovely village, but there are very few facilities for our children and teenagers.  Added to this, public transport is limited.  For as long as I have been in the village (10 years now), there have been discussions about the lack of facilities for older children and teens.  We are very lucky to have been gifted the field, and it seems like a lost opportunity to rectify this gap.  Over the years, many villagers have expressed disappointment that there are no pitches available for sport.  It seems that the field is used mainly for dog walking, (and even for hosting caravan clubs in the summer, to make money for the hall).

Added to this, Kegworth Imps kindly offered to help us mark out summer pitches for football in 2021, and then offered us a set of goal posts recently.  The Parish Council were unenthiastic about these offers, on the grounds that the maintenance and responsibility would be too much.  These offers should have been made public by the Parish Council.  There are many parents in the village who would happily have helped with the logisitical and maintenance issues to enable these offers to be accepted.

This petition is aimed at getting this issue into the public arena, to canvas views on what facilities could be provided, for example football and rounders pitches, a tennis or basketball court.  Sport England and other grants  can be applied for to help with costs, and there is grant writing capability in the village.

The community shop was originally designed as a changing room for sports people to use after playing on the field - it seemed that the original intention when the hall was built was for the field to be enjoyed by all members of our village for sport.

There is no doubt that our young people are overlooked.  It's probably too late for my kids, who have grown up in the village, but its about time we rectified this matter for for future generations.
